"No parcels found from the configured repositories" error during installation

Hi,

I have recently downloaded Cloudera Express 5.3.1, and I am trying to install it on a Red Hat Linux 6.5 machine. (The cluster will consist of this machine and one other.)

I am following "Installation Path A - Automated Installation by Cloudera Manager" from the Cloudera 5.3.x documentation.

I executed cloudera-manager-installer.bin successfully. I then logged into the web interface, selected Cloudera Express for installation, and progressed as far as the "Cluster Installation" step.

Since parcels are recommended over packages, I would prefer to use parcels. However, the following error is visible:

"Note: No parcels found from the configured repositories. Try adding a Custom Repository under More Options. Otherwise, you may only proceed with Use Packages."

When I check the logs, I can see that Cloudera is failing to access a certain file:

2015-01-29 10:43:08,152 ERROR ParcelUpdateService:com.cloudera.parcel.components.ParcelDownloaderImpl: (8 skipped) Unable to retrieve remote parcel repository manifest

at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:745)

I have tried manually downloading the 'manifest.json' file visible in the log above with wget, from the same machine. This works fine, so the file is certainly accessible over the network.

Here are the measures that I have taken to try and resolve this error:

1) I clicked 'More Options' in the web interface, and added the correct proxy server and port. These are the same proxy server and port that are set on the machine via the 'http_proxy' environment variable. Red Hat's yum utility works fine with this proxy server, and as mentioned above, I am able to remotely download Cloudera files via wget (which utilises the proxy server specified via 'http_proxy') with no problems.

The same error is still visible in the web interface even with the correct proxy server set.

2) I have tried restarting the "cloudera-scm-server" service, and then launching the web interface again. I still see the same error.

3) Just in case it might help, I have tried rebooting the machine and then attempting the installation again. The error still recurred.

4) I have Googled the error, and examined all results that I could find related to this error. I couldn't find a working solution for the problem.

Could you advise on next steps?

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: "No parcels found from the configured repositories" error during installation

We ran into this same problem and ran accross this blog entry that recommended restarting the cloudera-scm-server service after setting the proxy.  this worked for us.

1) set proxy in the wizard.

2) sudo service cloudera-scm-server restart

3) restart wizard and they should show up - at least for us they did.

Cloudera is failing to access a certain file, this is an issue from Cloudera?
