Cloudera Navigator Cluster Instance and Group

In the new version of Cloudera Navigator we can see Cluster Instances and Cluster groups instead of just Clusters.

Please help me with understanding the purpose of this.

1. Does it means I can use single Cloudera Navigator installation for tracking more than one cluster? How can I add on emore cluster to my existing Cloudera navigator then?

2. Is it possible for cluster to belong to more than one group?

Howdy,

Thanks for reaching out to the Cloudera community.

Can you clarify where you're seeing this info in Navigator? If you could share a screenshot of what you're seeing, that would also be helpful.

Re: Cloudera Navigator Cluster Instance and Group

Also, you can have Cloudera Manager manage multiple Clusters. See our Managing Clusters documentation for details.

Re: Cloudera Navigator Cluster Instance and Group

PS

Yes, we know Cloudera manager can manage multiple clusters, the question is regarding Cloudera Navigator: does Cloudera Navigator has multiple cluster support as well?

Re: Cloudera Navigator Cluster Instance and Group

Hi Nukala,

Thank you for the information.

"...does Cloudera Navigator has multiple cluster support as well?"

Yes. the following is from our "Cloudera Navigator Frequently Asked Questions" documentation[1]:

"...It provides a unified view of clusters associated with a given Cloudera Manager instance and lets you customize metadata, trace lineage, view audit events, and so on."

Re: Cloudera Navigator Cluster Instance and Group

Ok thanks.

So Cluster Instance stands for single cluster which is tracked by Cloudera Navigator. Is my understanding correct?

And what is Cluster Group in this case?

Re: Cloudera Navigator Cluster Instance and Group

Hi Nukala,

Navigator can track multiple Cluster within the same Cloudera Manager instance.

The "Cluster Group" is  new feature that was developed to support Altus clusters.

Please see our New Features and Changes in Cloudera Navigator Data Management documentation
