Starting the Quickstart on Mac OS running in docker

[ Edited ]

I have a fairly dumb quesiton, but I cannot get cloudera to run inside Docker on Mac OS.  I have dowloaded the image and ran the below command in a standard terminal:

docker run --hostname=quickstart.cloudera --privileged=true -t -i -p 8888 -p 80 -p 7180  /usr/bin/docker-quickstart

I get this error:

docker: Error parsing reference: "/usr/bin/docker-quickstart" is not a valid repository/tag.
See 'docker run --help'.

Clearly I am not doing something correct.  Can someone point me in the right direction?   /usr/bin/docker-quickstart does not exist on my machine.

Thanks for anyhelp.

Re: Starting the Quickstart on Mac OS running in docker

I haven't used Docker myself but I did read this blog post on it which may help. Perhaps it is an order of command issue if the following is still correct (as I believe it is).

docker pull cloudera/quickstart:latest
docker images # note the hash of the image and substitute it below
docker run --privileged=true \
--hostname=quickstart.cloudera \
-t -i ${HASH} \
/usr/bin/docker-quickstart

I hope this gets you over the hump.

I am running into the same issue. Wondering if you were able to resolve this issue.

I gave up on trying to get it to work.

Re: Starting the Quickstart on Mac OS running in docker

I got it working with adding “--name cloudera cloudera/quickstart /usr/bin/docker-quickstart” to the command line.

Hadoop services are up, though could not get sqoop populate Hive.
