At a recent webinar we receive information that Cloudera will keep support for HDP and HDF until 2022. Is this information true?

Today we can download tarballs for versions below:

Ambari 2.7.4.0: https://docs.cloudera.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.7.4.0/bk_ambari-installation/content/ambari_repositories.html

HDP 3.1.4: https://docs.cloudera.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.7.4.0/bk_ambari-installation/content/hdp_314_repositories.html

HDF 3.4.0: https://docs.cloudera.com/HDPDocuments/HDF3/HDF-3.4.0/release-notes/content/hdf_repository_locations.html

Cloudera will mantain community support and fixes for the versions above?

I thought that the term open source referred to having access to the source code. When you say that to download the software/code for newer version you need a username and password provided by a subscription, I understand that new version are no longer open-source. I am wrong?

Hive Drivers for HDP are no longer open do download too... only for Cloudera Enterprise at https://www.cloudera.com/downloads.html . It will no longer be available?

Finnaly, the link for HDF (https://www.cloudera.com/downloads/hdf.html) is already no more pointing to HDF, but now for CDF. The product HDF are no more available?

Hello,

We are having difficulty downloading files from the open-source HDP platform through the links

https://www.cloudera.com/downloads/hdp.html

https://docs.cloudera.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.7.5.0/bk_ambari-installation/content/ambari_repositories.html

https://docs.cloudera.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.7.5.0/bk_ambari-installation/content/hdp_315_repositories.html

Before we had this access, considering that HDP is an Open-Source platform.

Without access to these links above, we have no way to install and test the HDP.

The link for HDF (https://www.cloudera.com/downloads/hdf.html) is already no more pointing to HDF, but now for CDF. The HDF are no more available?

Thanks.

Yes, we are an open-source company as per this commitment outlined here: Our Commitment to Open Source Software but if you review the Cloudera Licensing Policy FAQs you will see that moving forward you will need a subscription agreement with Cloudera to access the distribution of our software:

"Starting September 2019, a subscription agreement will be required to access supported Cloudera products and maintenance releases."

Here is the specific information that describes what is required (i.e. username and password as supplied by Cloudera) to download Apache Ambari 2.7.5.0:

https://docs.cloudera.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.7.5.0/bk_ambari-installation/content/ch03s02s01.html

Regards,

Steve

Hi @jhcruvinel

The end of support dates for HDP and HDF are here:

https://www.cloudera.com/legal/hwx/support-services-policy.html

As I mentioned in my preceding answer you will need to have a subscription agreement with Cloudera, moving forward, to gain access to updates. Yes, Cloudera is open source in the sense that all of our individual projects and code are pushed upstream to the individual open source projects. However, to gain access to the software from Cloudera i.e. our distribution you will need a subscription agreement.

HDF is now called CDF. CDF can be installed and managed via Cloudera Manager for CDH or via Ambari for legacy Hortonworks customers. The link you shared:

https://www.cloudera.com/downloads/hdf.html

is the link for CDF managed by Ambari for legacy Hortonworks customers (so you can think of this as the old HDF).

I hope this helps.

Steve
