There's already an alert which monitors this for you. It's called the NameNode Last Checkpoint alert.

Hey guys,

after finding out where to find the time a HDFS checkpoint last occured in a HA environment (JMX of NameNode), I would like to integrate that information into Ambari.

Is there a way to create a widget for Ambari telling me, how long ago the last checkpoint happened? Like "8h 30m ago" I see, that I can create a widget showing me the LastCheckpointTime from JMX (in epoch format), but that number is not really intuitive to our Administrators. Even a conversion from epoch to human readable time would be awesome.

Thanks and best,

Benjamin
