It could be many different things, Ambari 2.4 with latest version of Hive view 1.5 improves on the stability of Hive view as opposed to what you're using. If this error is directly related to Hive view 1.0 and not network issue, then you will absolutely benefit from upgrading. Good luck.&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;I am using HDP-2.1, Hive version:-0.13.0.2.1. And we are getting error intermediate. When we restart the hive then is gets resolved. Why this issue is coming. Any idea:-&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Error:- FAILED: Execution Error, return code 1 from org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.exec.DDLTask. MetaException(message:Got exception: org.apache.thrift.transport.TTransportException java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe).&lt;/P&gt;</description>

      <description>&lt;P&gt;You should investigate network issues. also you must upgrade your cluster as soon as possible. HDP 2.1 is no longer supported and 2.2 is on the verge. you will miss your chance of safe upgrade if you don't consider doing so soon. &lt;/P&gt;</description>
