question upgrade from HDP 2.3.2 to HDP 2.5.3 and SLES upgrade from SLES 11 SP3 to SLES 12 in Archives of Support Questions (Read Only)

I have an Ambari 2.1.2, HDP 2.3.2 installation on SLES 11 SP3. We wish to upgrade them to Ambari 2.4.0.1 and HDP 2.5.3. Due to some other software dependencies. We would also be doing a OS upgrade to SLES 12. HDP 2.3.2 doesn't have SLES 12 support (OS being more recent than the HDP version). What would be an ideal way of doing this ? How different are the packages built for SLES 11 and SLES 12 ?

HDP 2.3.2 -> HDP 2.5.3 with SLES 11.

Upgrade OS to SLES 12.

Do we need to redeploy bits packaged for SLES 12 post this ?

You should review the following article, albeit it's for RHEL https://community.hortonworks.com/articles/40126/hdp-upgrade-using-reinstallation.html

Also review our documentation for any SLES nuances http://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.4.2.0/bk_ambari-upgrade/content/preparing_to_upgrade_ambari.html

We recommend upgrading to Ambari 2.4.2, no less. Ultimately, your your upgrade is a bit complicated and I would recommend you involve HWX professional services rather than going at it yourself.
