log4j changes on datanode

Hi Folks,

I want to change log4j of datanodes , basically the number of backup files and the sizes of those files in our cluster.

are these the 2 paramaters

hadoop.log.maxfilesize

hadoop.log.maxbackupindex

2)Can we change the log4j properties dynamically without a restart of the process.

Thank You,

Mastan

If you use Cloudera Manager, edit the direct fields under CM -> HDFS -> Configuration -> "DataNode Max Log Size" and "DataNode Maximum Log File Backups" to change those specific Log4j parameters automatically.

Log levels for classes/packages may be changed dynamically via the 'hadoop daemonlog' command or /logLevel servlet URL. Changing the log4j retention/rolling settings however requires a restart.
