Cannot execute sql in impala after upgrading from 1.1.1 to 1.2.4

[ Edited ]

After I upgraded impala from 1.1.1 to 1.2.4 by rpm installation. I cannot run any sql statements and it reports:

Your query has the following error(s):

Bad status for request TExecuteStatementReq(confOverlay={}, sessionHandle=TSessionHandle(sessionId=THandleIdentifier(secret='\xf3\x0c\xe4:\x80-J8\x98y\xa9\xd3\rx\xca\x14', guid='\xbe\x8a\xb5P\x07\x04Hb\x8a_\x82U\xb4\xfa\xaf\xb0')), statement=u'USE'): TExecuteStatementResp(status=TStatus(errorCode=None, errorMessage='AnalysisException: Syntax error in line 1:\nUSE\n ^\nEncountered: EOF\nExpected: IDENTIFIER\n\nCAUSED BY: Exception: Syntax error', sqlState='HY000', infoMessages=None, statusCode=3), operationHandle=None)

click the Error Log tab above for details

And I also noticed that the database dropdown box is empty:

I checked that the impala servces are up. Any ideas to solve this problem?

Re: Cannot execute sql in impala after upgrading from 1.1.1 to 1.2.4

It appears Impala is not able to read any catalog metadata, causing this
cryptic error from Hue. Impala v1.2+ added a new service to manage catalog
metadata, so you will need to install and configure this service as part of
the upgrade to Impala v1.2.4.

For installation and configuration details please refer to the Impala
install docs:

If you are using CM to manager your cluster, note that Impala v1.2 is only
supported on Cloudera Manager 4.8 or later.
