I am Massimiliano Martella and I'm studying Software Engineering at University of Bologna (Italy). I'm writing my thesis on Spark and BigData and I am really interested in business aspects of Big Data World.
Actually I started to study Scala as programming code to interrogate Spark with Eclipse environment.
I hope to found the correct response of my questions in this forum!
I am really happy to be here!

Hello everybody,
my name is Milan, and I'm pleased to meet you all :)
I have been in Hadoop operations since a year now.
I was educated for programming business information systems, but I've been working in systems administration (mostly Linux) for about 10 years.
I'm currently looking into better ways of deploying and monitoring cloudera hadoop clusters, for example CM vs rolling our own with puppet.
My hobbies include cycling, swimming, reading, hiking, aikido.. :)
edit: I've noticed that either Okta or Cloudera Forums have a problem with a UTF character (non-ASCII) in my last name, and I have no idea how to fix it - there's no "edit profile" option.. Can anyone help?

I have joined the community to get in touch with like minded people and learn from them as well as share my knowledge in best possible manner. Also as I am working with Cloudera distributions recently , would really help me to stay in touch with current advancements and upcoming features.

1. I have been working at IT/Telecom (wireline & wireless) field for last 20 years. The buzz words of Big Data, Cloud computing, along with programming made me start doing a career change in January 2016. After my contract with Verizon ended. I have taken time off from work to dive into this new found professional mainly training and nothing else. I am at a point (I think) to starty looking for employment. However, all companies I have been looking at wants 3 or more years experience. But, back to introducing myself. I decide to go with the number 1 software companies (Red Hat/Cloudera/ eventually Google or AWS for cloud computing/ Oracle or SQL and last, but not least SAS) in those technologies. I have just finished Apache Hadoop training here in Charlotte, NC. Trainning through John Hopkins University for R programming. Downloaded Red Hat Linux 7.2/Cloudera 5.8 both trial versions and loaded them on my just purschase online MacBook Pro w/El Captain (dual boot machine). I am using these OSes (Linux and Cloudera) to prepare for my CCA175 certification. I have not had this much schooling/training since my MCSE/CNE/CCNA/FCC-GROL certifications and license since my Lucent Technologies days. I maybe over doing it by trying to learn R programming and Python at the same time. Started Java programming in January and studied it for 3 months straight (no work, going out, relationship, etc..maybe to much info).
4. Hiking, swimming, cooking and weightlifting are my routine when I do perform my hobbies. Love football & track/field watching too old to do those things anymore. General house repairs. And training other individuals of the knowledge I have and gained (those that want to listen to me). And spending time with my 6 year old (single parent).
5. Haven't traveled international in years (family in Panama; accumlated during my military days - 7 daughters grown and gone). That's enough, I need to get back to study/training/ and finding work during the midnight hour.
Glad to be here and looking forward to sharing and learning from the community.
My name is Anthony Crenshaw, base in Charlotte, NC worked all over US and Central America as a Telecom/RF Engineer/Network Engineer/IT Engineer and Consultant. Now pursing to be a Big Data Developer/Administrator with Python/R/Java programming (backend engineering of course) and a data scientist specialist when I grow up.

Hello Folkes,
I am a developer at Sainsbury's currently working to provide a corporate hadoop data warehouse and processing ecosystem using pretty much the entire Cloudera stack.
I studied Computer Science at the University of Necastle upon Tyne many moons ago and have worked in IT for about thirty years. I have written systems integration services, ETL services, b2b interfaces and web services in various languages including C++, PHP, Python and Java
I'm currently learning a lot about the Hadoop eco system and am enjoying learning Scala and spark.
I hope that I will learn together with you folkes and hope that I will be able to contribute in some way to your efforts to get to grips with this nebulous subject.
Bon voyage,
Andy
