Ambari Cluster Creation - Registration with the Server Error

Contributor

I am trying to register ambari-server to another node from my host machine.

Registration failed. Unable to register with the server

I am getting the following errors

Registering with the server...
Registration with the server failed.

FQDN of another machine is sridhar25.sridhar.com

and I also I have installed ambari-agents on both the machines

On host1 and host2, I am able to successfully register host machines separately. But when I am creating a cluster from host1 to host2 it is getting Failed.

Localhostcs1 is my host machine (host1), sridhar25 is my host machine host2

thanks

Re: Ambari Cluster Creation - Registration with the Server Error

can you ping localhostcs1.sridhar.com from sridhar25.sridhar.com and vice-versa relying on DNS for ipaddr resolution?

Re: Ambari Cluster Creation - Registration with the Server Error

Yes, I can ping to localhostcs1.sridhar.com from sridhar25.sridhar.com and vice-versa.

But I ping only through IP Address,

Like ip-addr of localhostcs1.sridhar.com is 192.168.117.99, ip-addr of sridhar25.sridhar.com is 192.168.117.153

So, I was able to ping 192.168.117.99 from sridhar25 and vice versa.

Yet, the problem persists.....

Re: Ambari Cluster Creation - Registration with the Server Error

All hosts in your system must be configured for both forward and and reverse DNS. If you are unable to configure DNS in this way, you should edit the /etc/hosts file on every host in your cluster to contain the IP address and Fully Qualified Domain Name of each of your hosts. The following instructions are provided as an overview and cover a basic network setup for generic Linux hosts: http://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.1.1.0/bk_Installing_HDP_AMB/content/_check_dns.htm....

I have edited the /etc/hosts file accordingly.

I am able to ssh to the localhostcs3.sridhar.com without password connection

but it gives Registration with the server failed.....

Both forward and reverse ways are password less connection through ssh. I am able to connect both the machines without password.

I able to register my own host machine, but unable to register another guest machine in the cluster.

Re: Ambari Cluster Creation - Registration with the Server Error

Guru

Can you post the output of this API call to the Ambari Server?

/api/v1/hosts

Curious to see what hostnames Ambari sees as registered.

@jeff

Where to see the output of the API call to the Ambari Server?

Are you asking about the ambari-server.log ?

or the /etc/hosts file contents?

I see it /api/v1/hosts.The result is

"Hosts" : { "host_name" : "master" }

what can i do ? thanks

Re: Ambari Cluster Creation - Registration with the Server Error

@Sridhar Babu M

You need to run something like that on the ambari-server host.

curl -i -H "X-Requested-By: ambari" -u admin:admin -X GET http://localhost:8080p/api/v1/hosts

Were you able to password-less ssh from Ambari server to failed host.?
