What kind of error do you see in the ambari-server.log / ambari-server.out ?
Also just before the error we see "About to start PostgresSQL" so can you please check if the Postgres successfully started or if the Postgres logs shows any error?
Connection refused error. I edited my /etc/hosts file but it already had a mapping for 127 -> sandbox
if this is sandbox, make sure that port is allowed under network/advanced/port forwarding.
sudo ambari-server stop
sudo ambari-server start
Cleanly shutdown and halt the box and reboot your machine.
Thanks for the suggestions. I tried opening the port and restarting both ambari-server and agent as well as full system reboots. Ultimately I ended up just deleting the Virtual box instance and re-importing. So far so good but I chose not to reset the ambari password this time.
I think that's a good idea as I did download an early one and had issues then got a better one later.
