CDH 5.0 to 5.3.2 namenode failure :old layout version -55.

Expert Contributor

Hi ,

while upgrading from CDH 5.0 to 5.3.2  , i had namenode failure with below issue

i was getting below error in namenode.log error while starting namenode

java.io.IOException:  File system image contains an old layout version -55. An upgrade to version -59 is required. Please restart NameNode with the "-rollingUpgrade started" option if a rolling upgrade is already started; or restart NameNode with the "-upgrade" option to start a new upgrade.

solution:

so i modified /hadoop/dfs/nn/current/VERSION  with new version 59

#Fri Jun 26 15:46:33 IDT 2015
namespaceID=xxxx
clusterID=cluster40
cTime=0
storageType=NAME_NODE
blockpoolID=BP-xxxxx-10.233.103.59-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
layoutVersion=-59

then i restarted the Cluster and it worked

Cheers,

Re: CDH 5.0 to 5.3.2 namenode failure :old layout version -55.

The solution you have implemented is definitely not recommended. In CDH5.2, Cloudera implemented a metadata change which will be correctly invoked if you are using Cloudera Manager 5.2 or later.

Since you're upgrading to CDH5.3, please

- upgrade to Cloudera Manager 5.4.1 (current latest)

- follow the upgrade guide:
