Can nto run restart Ranger on sandbox

Can nto run restart Ranger on sandbox

New Contributor

Hi,

I am trying to restart ranger using below command,

sudo service ranger-admin start

but I get the following exception:

No live SolrServers available to handle this request
org.apache.solr.client.solrj.SolrServerException: No live SolrServers available to handle this request
can someone point me to the problem?

How did you configure your "Ranger Audit" ?

Are you choosing option "Audit to Solr" or "Audit to HDFS" ?

If it is Audit to Solr then you should make sure that the Solr instance (Ambari Infra) is running else choose HDFS.

Do you have "xasecure.audit.destination.solr" or "xasecure.audit.destination.hdfs" enabled Or both?

Also what is the value for "ranger.audit.source.type" ?

Example: (Ambari UI Ranger config snap)

I just made the Solr off and now it works. When Should I turn it on again?

When you are very sure that you want to put the ranger audit records in Solr. Also when you are sure that the Solr instance availability is ensured.

However, It is recommended that Ranger audits be written to both Solr and HDFS. Audits to Solr are primarily used to enable search queries from the Ranger Admin UI.

HDFS is a long-term destination for audits -- audits stored in HDFS can be exported to any SIEM system, or to another audit store.
