Cannot update Cloudera Manager (5.16) on Ubuntu 16.04

Cannot update Cloudera Manager (5.16) on Ubuntu 16.04

Expert Contributor

 Hi,

I am trying to update and upgrade my Ubuntu 16.04 server with Cloudera Manager 5.15.x currently installed. Unfortunately, I am getting this error:

It seems something tells the server to look for 5.16.0-1 but there is no such file here:

Thanks,

Hello,

Is this something you are still actively seeing? The 5.16 release has not yet been made available. If you are still having trouble obtaining the proper repo information please update this post so that we can work with our teams internally.

It's odd to hear that the 5.16 release has not been made available. We've upgraded a CDH cluster running on Ubuntu 14.04 to 5.16 last week:

~$ apt-cache policy cloudera-manager-server
cloudera-manager-server:
  Installed: 5.16.0-1.cm5160.p0.9~trusty-cm5
  Candidate: 5.16.0-1.cm5160.p0.9~trusty-cm5
  Version table:
 *** 5.16.0-1.cm5160.p0.9~trusty-cm5 0
        501 http://archive.cloudera.com/cm5/ubuntu/trusty/amd64/cm/ trusty-cm5/contrib amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Maybe it was made available accidentally for some period of time? In any case, we're now seeing problems similar to @maziyar. In our case, apt-get update now fails on the cluster nodes because the CDH upgrade changed the repository pointed to from trusty-cm5.15.1 to trusty-cm5.16.0.

I've also launched a CDH 5.16.0 cluster last week (on Tue, Nov 13). While the 5.16.0 packages are withdrawn the "Release" files for the latest version of CDH5/CM5 (xenial-cm5, xenial-cdh5, trusty-cdh5, etc.) still point to 5.16.0, see also http://community.cloudera.com/t5/CDH-Manual-Installation/Failed-to-install-CDH5-packages-from-archiv...

Hi @lhebert

Yes I just ran another update/upgrade and the problem still showing up on Cloudera Manager host. I haven't tried my nodes to see if they can get CDH 5.16 cause I was afraid they may be able to get it and I was going to be stuck with different versions between CM and CDH.

We rolled back CDH and CM 5.16.0 releases from our repositories and they won't be available any more, sorry.

Please look for announcements regarding the 5.16 releases at a later date.

Hello,
This really wasn't the question about CDH and CM 5.16.0, to be honest, I didn't even know there was going to be any release in 5.x since the 6.x came out.

The issue is, that I can't upgrade anything else in my CM server now since it fails flat regarding those missing archives. Any workaround about how to clean them safely so I can continue upgrading the rest of dependencies on the server?

Thanks

Hi maziyar,

It should work after an apt-get clean and apt-get update.

Hi,

You are right! I was using pkg to hold back Cloudera dependencies from the upgrade to solve this problem. However, simply cleaning the cache and updating again is a better solution. This way I can see if there is a new release down the road.

Thanks again,

Best
Maziyar

It didn't work! After unholding the packages, by running "sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade" still asks for 5.16.0-1
