Connecting to HiveServer2 Interactive / LLAP through Zookeeper URL

Connecting to HiveServer2 Interactive / LLAP through Zookeeper URL

New Contributor

I’m not able to connect to Hive2 Interactive/LLAP server through Zookeeper-based URL on my PC. I have tried both Hortonworks JDBC and ODBC drivers as well. It gets connected to Hive2 server through Zookeeper-based URL but not through URL for the Interactive/LLAP server. I’m using Hortonwork HDP 3.1.4 Stack.

The following is the details of the connections I made through my IDEs along with the test scenarios.

  • JDBC
    • Driver: 10.1.126.16/usr/hdp/3.1.4.0-315/hive/jdbc/hive-jdbc-3.1.0.3.1.4.0-315-standalone.jar
    • IDE: DBeaver
    • HiveServer2
      • URL: jdbc:hive2://masternode1:2181,masternode2:2181,masternode3:2181/;serviceDiscoveryMode=zooKeeper;zooKeeperNamespace=hiveserver2
      • Connection Test: Passed (see screenshot # 1)
    • HiveServer2 Interactive
      • URL: jdbc:hive2://masternode1:2181,masternode2:2181,masternode3:2181/;serviceDiscoveryMode=zooKeeperHA;zooKeeperNamespace=hs2ActivePassiveHA
      • Connection Test: Failed (see screenshot # 2)

  • ODBC
    • Driver
      • Win32: Hortonworks Hive ODBC (v. 2.6.5.1005)
      • Win64: Hortonworks Hive ODBC (v. 2.6.5.1005)
    • IDE: Windows ODBC Data Source Administrator
    • HiveServer2
      • Host(s): masternode1:2181,masternode2:2181,masternode3:2181
      • Service Discovery Mode: Zookeeper
      • Service Discovery Options:
        • Zookeeper: hiveserver2 (Namespace)
      • Database: [empty] / default (both)
      • Connection Test: Passed (see screenshot # 3)
    • HiveServer2 Interactive
      • Host(s): masternode1:2181,masternode2:2181,masternode3:2181
      • Service Discover Mode: Zookeeper
      • Service Discover Options:
        • Zookeeper: hs2ActivePassiveHA (Namespace)
      • Username/Password: ***/***
      • Database: [empty] / default (both)
      • Connection Test: Failed (see screenshot # 4)

Ironically, if I connect to Hive Interactive server with the same JDBC and ODBC drivers through non-Zookeeper based URL. It works like a charm.

The following is the details of the non-Zookeeper connections I made through my IDEs along with the test scenarios.

  • JDBC
    • Driver: hive-jdbc-3.1.0.3.1.4.0-315-standalone.jar
    • IDE: DBeaver
    • HiveServer2 Interactive:
      • URL: jdbc:hive2://masternode2:10500/default
      • Connection Test: Passed (see screenshot # 5)

  • ODBC
    • Driver
      • Win32: Hortonworks Hive ODBC (v. 2.6.5.1005)
      • Win64: Hortonworks Hive ODBC (v. 2.6.5.1005)
    • IDE: Windows ODBC Data Source Administrator
    • HiveServer2 Interactive:
      • Host(s): masternode2
      • Port: 10500
      • Service Discovery Mode: No Service Discovery
      • Username/Password: ***/***
      • Database: [empty] / default (both)
      • Connection Test: Passed (see screenshot # 6)
