Custom processor + DBCPConnectionPool for SQL Server : driver jar not loaded

Expert Contributor

I have created a controller service to connect to a test db.

I have a custom processor that reads data from SQL Server, the mock tests, the build and the deployment to NiFi succeed. The processor runs into error, maybe the nar dependency scope is at fault or ... ?

I am unsure The pom for processor and the nar projects are as follows :

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

  • In the controller service, I do not see my custom processor in 'Referencing Components'(it says 'no referencing components')
  • Right now, I have hard-coded the 'Database Driver Location(s)' but in production, I would like the controller to pick up that from the classpath(somehow, is it possible?)

Super Guru

Try forming your Database Driver Location value as a URL, such as "file://C/path/to/sqljdbc4.jar" I think folks have had trouble with Windows pathnames.

For the "dynamic" Database Driver Location value: that property accepts NiFi Expression Language. Of course there's no flow file available from which to grab attributes, but you can use the NiFi Variable Registry to set the value of that (and other) properties. This would allow you to change the values in one place, and/or to have different values for different environments (dev, test, production, e.g.). Is that what you mean by not hard-coding the location?

I want to avoid adding the sqljdbc42.jar in the nifi lib directory(that's what I am doing now to make it work).

You can put sqljdbc42.jar somewhere else and point to it in the Database Driver Location property. There might be issues with backslashes and/or Windows pathnames, I think there are other HCC questions/answers that address this.
