Failed to receive heart beat from Agent SuSE 11 SP3

New Contributor

Hi,

I am new to Cloudera and doing this intallation for the first time. I am trying to install Cloudera Manager(5.2) and 4 node node cluster.

The CM and all the other 4 nodes are on separate nodes on Virtual Box. CM is on Ubuntu and 4 nodes( 1 Master and 3 slaves) on SUSE Linux 11 SP3.
Everything went fine and I am stuck at the last step, getting the below error.

My master was installed correctly, but none of the slaves are installed and I am getting the below error.

Installation failed. Failed to receive heartbeat from agent.
Ensure that the host's hostname is configured properly.
Ensure that port 7182 is accessible on the Cloudera Manager Server (check firewall rules).
Ensure that ports 9000 and 9001 are free on the host being added.
Check agent logs in /var/log/cloudera-scm-agent/ on the host being added (some of the logs can be found in the installation details).
I went through all the posts regarding this error, but nothing helped.
Please find below output for some of the commands which might be helpful.

1. On node where I am installating Cloudera Manager.
cat /etc/hosts
vagrant@jreslock-devenv-precise64:~$ cat /etc/hosts

The following documents what is needed for networking and security configuration of the OS before attempting to install cloudera.

http://www.cloudera.com/content/cloudera/en/documentation/core/latest/topics/cm_ig_cm_requirements.h...

It appears that the CM server knows itself by the hostname you have on the loopback (127.0.0.1) interface. Provide IP address and hostname, and adjust your system's network config so the actual command "hostname" returns the name you want to use in the /etc/hosts file across all systems.

The /etc/cloudera-scm-agent/config.ini file will have on hosts name of the CM server that the actual CM server thinks it should be.  Verify that matches what you want the hostname and IP of the CM server in the /etc/hosts file.

Dont put a hostname in the looback entry line, keep that localhost.  There are other historical posts covering this subject on the forum as well, this configuration issue is not specific to your SuSE release.
