HDF Sandbox Streamline Deployment Process timeout

New Contributor

Hey all,

I've downloaded the HDF Sandbox (3.1) with an VirtualBox Image. After I imported the VM with the default settings i started up the VM and started the Tutorial describt in (https://de.hortonworks.com/tutorial/real-time-event-processing-in-nifi-sam-schema-registry-and-superset/)

After the login into the Ambaria Webinterface (Port 8080) no Services were startet, so i stated all services on my own. In Chapter 2. (Real-Time Event Processing In NiFi, SAM, Schema Registry and SuperSet) in Step 3 i am not able to deploy the Trucking-IoT_Demo instead i got the following error message:

Topology submission failed due to: java.lang.Exception: Topology could not be deployed successfully: storm deploy command failed with Exception in thread "main" java.lang.RuntimeException: org.eclipse.aether.resolution.DependencyResolutionException: Failed to read artifact descriptor for org.apache.kafka:kafka-clients:jar:0.10.2.1, Caused by: org.eclipse.aether.resolution.DependencyResolutionException: Failed to read artifact descriptor for org.apache.kafka:kafka-clients:jar:0.10.2.1, Caused by: org.eclipse.aether.collection.DependencyCollectionException: Failed to read artifact descriptor for org.apache.kafka:kafka-clients:jar:0.10.2.1, Caused by: org.eclipse.aether.resolution.ArtifactDescriptorException: Failed to read artifact descriptor for org.apache.kafka:kafka-clients:jar:0.10.2.1, Caused by: org.eclipse.aether.resolution.ArtifactResolutionException: Could not transfer artifact org.apache.kafka:kafka-clients:pom:0.10.2.1 from/to central (http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/): Connect to repo1.maven.org:80 timed out, Caused by: org.eclipse.aether.transfer.ArtifactTransferException: Could not transfer artifact org.apache.kafka:kafka-clients:pom:0.10.2.1 from/to central (http://repo1.maven.org/maven2/): Connect to repo1.maven.org:80 timed out, Caused by: org.apache.http.conn.ConnectTimeoutException: Connect to repo1.maven.org:80 timed out

I hope you can help me :)

kind regards

Andreas

Hi @Andreas K, thank you for sharing your issue. Please try the following:

-Power off the VM and re-start the Sandbox. Some times the Ambari REST API's fail in the deployment process.

-If this doesn't solve the issue, delete all files for the HDF 3.1.1 Sandbox in your VM and import the VM again.

If the issue persist with the new sandbox please repost and provide logs so we can help resolved the issue.

Hope this helps.

Hey @acastro i tried both the solutions. The first one didn't change anything. The secound one started the services after the bootup, but i am not able to deploy the Truck-IoT-Demo at Streamline. I got the same Error Message like before.

if you tell me where i can find the logs i will post them as fast as possible.

Hi @Andreas K, which operating system are you using? We will work on recreating the issue on our end.

Thanks!

Hey @acas, i am using windows 10 64 bit as an operating System, with the Virtual Box Sandbox Image of your Webside in Version 3.1.1. I took the default settings of the VM and tried straight forward the Tutorial (https://de.hortonworks.com/tutorial/real-time-event-processing-in-nifi-sam-schema-registry-and-superset/) until step 3.

Hi @Andreas K, thank you for your patience. I went ahead and tried to recreate your issue however I was not able to recreate the errors you got.

Below are the steps I did to try to recreate your issue. I included screenshots in the attached PDF of my results. hcc-recreating-issue-with-hdf311-sandbox-trucking.zip

1. Downloaded the HDF3.1.1 Sandbox from the Hortonworks Downloads Page

2. Imported the ova file to VirtualBox with the default settings

3. Started the HDF 3.1.1. Sandbox

4. Allowed the Sandbox to boot up (it took about a minute) then went to Ambari http://sandbox-hdf.hortonworks.com:8080

-Note that the services have a red alert symbol, at this point all the services are starting up. Once all services start completely they will be fully in green with no alerts. This process will take about 2-3 minutes. If you see any alerts after this period of time restart the service with the alerts until all the services are green.

5. Once all services started, I went to NiFi > NiFi UI

6. In the NiFi UI the Trucking-IoT-Demo will pop up as show in the video attached. In case that the demo does not appear as default, you can drag Template and drop it on the NiFi canvas. Then you can select the Trucking-IoT-Demo and it should appear in your NiFi canvas.
