After failing to get the Ambari login URL to work in HDP 2.4, downloaded and installed HDP 2.5 in Oracle Vritual box. I am following every step on the Learning the Ropes webpage http://hortonworks.com/hadoop-tutorial/learning-the-ropes-of-the-hortonworks-sandbox/
First off, when clicking on the link for Launch the Dashboard on http://127.0.0.1:8888/# does not work.
So I clicked on "access components in sandbox" and then the Ambari login URL http://127.0.0.1:8080/
I get thrown a username and password dialog and none of the user ids listed on the Learning the Ropes page work. maria_dev, raj_ops, holger_gov or amy_ds
I used putty to login to the sandbox and ran the ambari-admin-password-reset script and it is not resetting the password.
What am I doing wrong here ? I am running the Virtual box on Windows 7
[root@sandbox ~]# ambari-admin-password-reset
Please set the password for admin:
Please retype the password for admin:
Could not set the admin password.
I think it would be best to start from the very beginning (too many fundamentals not working here)
In Virtual Box:
Get the most recent Sandbox (it was released on yesterday): http://hortonworks.com/downloads/#sandbox.
Let me know how that goes
FYI: Yesterday, I successfully reinstalled the latest sandbox version on VirtualBox and I am not replicating your failures.
I download the Sandbox yesterday, so will delete and re-install. Isn't the VM Shell presented when you start the Virtual Machine and not while importing the .ova file. Is that what you want me to observe ? I have 8 GB on my Windows machine and allocated 5 GB to this VM. Anything more, it makes the Windows machine sluggish.
No luck, still the same issue. It keeps throwing the user name and password dialog without accepting the credentials provided.
When I start the VM, I see two OS types to select. One is the CentOS Linux 7 and another is some type of recovery mode. I left the default selection be taken, if you just wait and not select anything. Attaching screenshot. The second one looks like some recovery mode as that starts up very fast.
(I see in your answer in the thread that you restarted the server)
The Sandbox requires 8GB of memory. If you allocate less than that, you will definitely have issues getting it to run reliably. I find the Sandbox works best if you are able to allocate 10-12GB of memory.
I had some difficulty with the newest sandbox too (downloaded yesterday), because the configuration was missing the port forwarding rules for the UIs. Here is an account of how I fixed it for myself: https://community.hortonworks.com/content/kbentry/57066/setting-up-the-port-forwardings-on-hdp-25-sa....
Ok, I will try the port forwarding. I mucked around with it when using HDP 2.4 and it worked only once when I put the host ip n the ambari guest ip column under port forwarding rules. But never worked. So thought now with HDP 2.5, it will work. What I am confused is that it now throws the user id and password dialog box, but never accepts it. I even used the Web ssh client and reset the ambair admin password. Yet, it does not accept that or the maria_dev credentials.
At one point the learning the ropes webpage says to use ifconfig and then the URL for ambari would be what is shown as ip under eth0, but then when I tried 172.17.0.2 it did not even show the user id and password dialog box.
