How can I run java 1.7 jobs on the cloudera vm 4.5

How can I run java 1.7 jobs on the cloudera vm 4.5

New Contributor

I'm new to hadoop and I use the cloudera quick start vm. I've made a MapReduceJob in java, bud when I run the MRJ using oozie on the cloudera vm, I get an minor major versions error? I think this is because of the uses java versions. For the MRJ I need to use 1.7. So how can I update the cloudera vm to java 1.7?

(p.s.. Spell check doesn't know cloudera?)

I have the same question.  I need to upgrade to java 1.7 so that I can run neo4j 2.0 on the VM.

Here's what I did to upgrade to Java 7.

1) Downloaded the Java JDK 7(I went with Oracle JDK).

2) Extracted and moved it to /usr/java  using sudo mv.  So you should have it as a dir when you type ls

3)  vi /etc/profile and change the JAVA_HOME to whatever the jdk7 you downloaded.

4)  I then restarted the VM.

That should work for you.

I cannot vouch however that everything will work.
