to stop the iptables use: service iptables stop

status will give status of iptables(whether firewall is running or not )??

Aarh, it still does not run. It just gives me the "site can't be reached error". I also tried restarting my sandbox.

please check the R url in shell by using curl

syn: curl -Is http://IP:PORT| head -n 1

OR if you want to check the browser in command mode install "elinks" in server.
