How do I recover missing Zeppelin Interpreter tab and its functionality?

Hi. After updating my config remove anonymous and enable login for maria_dev and admin I can no longer see the Interpreter tab in the Zeppelin UP nor does it function.

Following another's suggestion, I also set zeppelin.anonymous.allowed to false and restarted Zeppelin. Still, after logging in as maria_dev, I can't leverage any interpreters (see below).

Any ideas how to get the interpreter back? thanks - Colin

@Colin Cunningham, by "tab" do you mean the Interpreter option in the pulldown menu underneath your logon ID? There is an access control feature that hides settings on interpreter pages unless someone is authorized, but this sounds different (I haven't seen the pulldown option disappear). Here's the URL for the interpreter page if you want to try it directly: http://<host>:9995/#/interpreter

Re: How do I recover missing Zeppelin Interpreter tab and its functionality?

@lgeorge. thanks for looking. I guess I don't mean 'tab' but before I disabled anon access, i recall seeing an Interpreter pull down immediately to the right of 'Notebook'. Regardless, no interpreter runs or is available.

For example, I can't even run the shell. I don't see how to bind interpreters. i have none to choose from as far as I am aware.

Problem could be because of below properties not uncommented in shiro_ini of zeppelin config.

With anonymous login these are not required, but when you enable login, you must uncomment these lines.

sessionManager = org.apache.shiro.web.session.mgt.DefaultWebSessionManager
cacheManager = org.apache.shiro.cache.MemoryConstrainedCacheManager
securityManager.cacheManager = $cacheManager
securityManager.sessionManager = $sessionManager
securityManager.sessionManager.globalSessionTimeout = 86400000

Re: How do I recover missing Zeppelin Interpreter tab and its functionality?

@rguruvannagari thank you. i edited the 3 securityManager lines in my shiro.ini that I found not seeing the cacheManager referenced anywhere. I made the edits, restarted Zeppelin, but face the same non-functional interpreter.

below is my shiro.ini. if you have time to browse and see any issues, please let me know. cheers, Colin

Do you see interpreters when select from Drop down under User Name on top right corner of web UI now?

Re: How do I recover missing Zeppelin Interpreter tab and its functionality?

@Colin Cunningham

I have just checked out Zeppelin using your shiro for maria_dev. This works fine my site.

This looks like you may have a interpreters unbinding. See below how to check this.

Re: How do I recover missing Zeppelin Interpreter tab and its functionality?

@Colin Cunningham

Based on your last comment that looks like the interpreter does not like "%". Try this:

- log in to Zeppelin UI as maria_dev

- create a new notebook

- type and run:

%sh
whoami

NOTE: DO NOT COPY ABOVE CODE BUT TYPE IN YOURSELF

Re: How do I recover missing Zeppelin Interpreter tab and its functionality?

@Daniel Kozlowski the first command returns zeppelin and my interpreter binding reports all the usual suspects.

It seems to be binding again. I don't know why it wasn't for the prior 36 hours. thank you.
