abhi.2007,

First, confirm that you have a 64-bit version of Windows 8 installed. That is required.

After downloading the VM and unpacking it, just select Player > File > Open in VMware Player and point it to your file.

Yes I have the 64-bit version Windows 8. installed. you are saying about Cloudera QuickStart VM am I right?

I have downloaded and unpacked but there are four files in the unpacked folder

1. cloudera-quickstart-vm-4.3.0-vmware.mf

2. cloudera-quickstart-vm-4.3.0-vmware

3.cloudera-quickstart-vm-4.3.0-vmware-disk1

4.cloudera-quickstart-vm-4.3.0-vmware-file1

which file I have to open in the VM Player as player not recognisiing any files mentioned above.

Please let me know what all the things required to start my Cloudera QuickStart VM.

#2 should be a .vmx file. Follow these instructions to install:

OK, I see a couple of issues in the screen shot. One of which is covered in the Community Knowledge article I suggested and also in the message you are receiving.

1. The amount of RAM allocated to the VM is not sufficient to run Cloudera Manager. Cloudera Manager requires at least 8GB of RAM allocated to the VM (which is different than RAM allocated to the system the VM is installed on). If you are attempting to use a trail version of Cloudera Enterprise, that requires a minimum of 10GB of RAM allocated to the VM.

2. The allocated processors for the VM are not enough for Cloudera Manager. Cloudera Manager requires at least 2 virtual processors allocated to the VM.

I hope this helps.
