How to turn back hive sql authorization when Ranger hive plugin is enabled

Contributor

In HDP 2.3.2/Ambari 2.1.2 sandbox, Hive Ranger plugin is turned on by default. I can't set role to admin anymore even though I put myself in hive.users.in.admin.role. Is there something I miss? I still want to use grant/revoke in beeline.

@wayne2chicago You need to change your security model from Ranger to SQLStdIn. it will allow you to grant/revoke access in beeline.

Grant/revoke will work even with Ranger authorization enabled. In which case, the policies are created in Ranger DB.

Is there any specific reason you want to turn back to hive sql authorization?
