Impala query fails with a NoClassDefFoundError for HBaseTable

New Contributor

Hi,

I am trying to revive an old CDH 5.0.2 environment, and having a few configuration issues. Some of the Impala tables, originally created from Hive, are throwing an exception on attempts to describe. Here is the log:

Query: describe activities_0_par
ERROR: AnalysisException: Failed to load metadata for table: default.activities_0_par
CAUSED BY: TableLoadingException: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.cloudera.impala.catalog.HBaseTable
CAUSED BY: ExecutionException: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.cloudera.impala.catalog.HBaseTable
CAUSED BY: NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class com.cloudera.impala.catalog.HBaseTable

When I am trying to drop the table from Hive, query succeeds. invalidate-metadata from impala-shell also succeeds. The table however is still showing up in 'show tables', and 'drop table activities_0_par' from impala-shell is failing with the same error as describe.

All services are looking healthy in the Cloudera Manager. Does anyone have a clue how to fix it? Is there a classpath setting somewhere?

Thanks,

Liza
