Importing table column comments from Oracle using Sqoop

Importing table column comments from Oracle using Sqoop

New Contributor

Using Sqoop, I am trying to fetch the column comments of the table which is created in Oracle, but unable to do so. I am getting only the table data without column comments at HDFS/Hive using Sqoop import. Just wanted to understand the feasibility of this. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Abhinav

We are currently also after this but couldn't find a solution so far. As it seems there is no build-in functionality as of now, so there are three options:

  1. Contribute to sqoop development and get extended schema information (of course wouldn't work for a specific query, only whole tables)
  2. Write a process to generate a schema-file from Oracle (e.g. as Avro-Schema-File)
  3. Copy Metadata from Oracle directly into Hive-Metastore

I created a 'wish' regarding option #1 and added a pull request in github: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SQOOP-3387
