Is it mandatory that we should have exact mount point to that of existing datanodes while adding new data-nodes to the existing cluster?

Is it mandatory that we should have symmetric mount point while adding data-nodes to the existing cluster?
For example in the existing DataNode directories has 5 mount point(/grid/0,/grid/1,/grid/2,/grid/3,/grid/4) where as in the new datanode it has 3 mount point (/grid/0,/grid/1,/grid/2)
