Making the ranger-solr plugin work with HA HDFS

New Contributor

It is kind of documented here (https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP2/HDP-2.4.0/bk_Security_Guide/content/manually_updating_ambari_hdfs_audit_settings.html) but not easy to find so I think it is good to post it here.

To make auditlogging with the ranger-solr plugin work with HA HDFS you need to provide a link to the hdfs-site.xml and core-site.xml

cd /opt/lucidworks-hdpsearch/solr/server/solr-webapp/webapp/WEB-INF/classes (location extracted from setup script)

ln -s /usr/hdp/current/hadoop-client/conf/core-site.xml core-site.xml

chown solr:solr core-site.xml

ln -s /usr/hdp/current/hadoop-client/conf/hdfs-site.xml hdfs-site.xml

chown solr:solr hdfs-site.xml

This way you are able to set the XAAUDIT.HDFS.HDFS_DIR=hdfs://__REPLACE__NAME_NODE_HOST:8020/ranger/audit to a proper HA URL like hdfs://prd:8020/ranger/audit

@Kris Geusebroek thanks for posting. You shouldn't require the port in your HA NN URL.

Thanks. Will try that later. Also wondering if core-site.xml symlink is really needed so want to try without that one too
