O.S Patch updates, what are the precautions to take before doing OS upgrades to cluster?

Backup the system

Make sure no jobs are running

If HA enabled then be careful during the Rolling fashion while stopping and starting the services

Make sure new patch is compatible with HDP version

do patches on minor versions, do them via one host at a time, enable HA on your cluster.
