Has anyone seen a situation where the Ranger Kafka plugin is enabled and connection test is also successful, however the json file created in the kafka policycache on the node is empty!
Also tried using the REST API call to get the policy details but no output.
Due to this, the kafka logs are being filled with below Error continuously:
2016-03-02 16:47:34,607 ERROR [kafka-request-handler-6] apache.ranger.authorization.kafka.authorizer.RangerKafkaAuthorizer (RangerKafkaAuthorizer.java:202) - Ranger Plugin returned null. Returning false
@Arti Wadhwani Generally 'Ranger Plugin returned null' means the RangerBasePlugin for kafka is not able to check if the access is allowed for the particular user to the particular resource. Based on your description, it looks like there is no policy to check the user's authority against. Is the Kafta Ranger plugin complaining anything about policy before this error message?
Your best bet is to turn on the debugging for Kafka Ranger plugin and you should see more interesting stuff !
Hope this helps.
@Arti Wadhwani Can you please check in Ranger Admin -> Audit -> Plugins tab a log done by Ranger Kafka Plugin. I doubt that Ranger Kafka Plugin could communicate to Ranger Admin. Check in Kafka Ranger Log for any Exception.
