Recommended approach to upgrade hadoop tools

are there guidelines on upgrade process especially when applications get updated to new versions and having no impact on production?

In addition to @Sandeep Nemuri If you are upgrading Ambari that should not impact much to the application team. If you are upgrading HDP stack, then you need to copy sqoop jars(like Teradata, Netezza etc.,) or custom jars to latest HDP version. Other than that there should not be much impact.

One more thing if you are trying for rolling upgrade then you need to change Hive ports after upgrade to 10000.
