Remove Secondary namenode service

Remove Secondary namenode service

New Contributor

In a 5 node hadoop cluster setup using Cloudera Manager Standard 4.8.0, one node is configured as namenode. However it also runs the secondary namenode service. Is it mandatory to keep this service or can this service be removed. I have no plans to put a secondary namenode server at the moment.

Secondary namenode is required for your cluster to compress edit logs(metadata) to fs image and load it back to namenode....Its no harm to put secondary namenode on namenode server but if you remove the service it will effect your cluster ending with loosing data...

Just want to add that secondary namenode is better to be running on a different node as the name node (in a real cluster environment).  Since you have 5 nodes in your cluster, you can place the secondary namenode somewhere in the cluster.
