Running Solr 6.3 on Yarn in HDP 2.4.2

I have seen several posts referring to this page: https://lucidworks.com/2014/12/01/solr-yarn/ . As a solution to run Solr indexing on Yarn. those posts, and the solution, are couple years old. So, I am wondering if there has been any improvements on running Solr on Yarn in HDP?

The solution on the link above does not run Solr as a service in ambari, but rather outside the HDP cluster since it is run on the command line and not managed by Ambari.

Any solution to this please?

It should be possible to run Solr on YARN using Slider in HDP 2.4.2: https://github.com/hortonworks/slider-release/tree/HDP-2.4.2.0-tag/app-packages/solr

Theoretically you would be able to launch a Solr app on YARN through the Slider View in Ambari, but I am not sure if anyone has tried this out for Solr.

The Slider View for Ambari says it's marked as deprecated, so I am not sure of its status: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/Ambari-2.2.2.18/bk_ambari-views/content/ch_using_slider_vi...

Well, I can't say about running Solr in YARN, but Solr can now be installed and managed by Ambari 2.5 and later. I don't think it was available in 2.4. Check out this link: https://docs.hortonworks.com/HDPDocuments/HDP2/HDP-2.6.0/bk_solr-search-installation/content/ch_hdp-...
