Upgrading of individual components through ambari

avatar

Currently we have HDP 2.4 and it has hbase 1.1.2. But we feel Hbase 1.2 will better as few bug were fixed in that version too. I do see even HDP 2.5 has hbase version of 1.1.2. Is there a way i can upgrade hbase to 1.2 that too with ambari. I believe ambari works on the concept of Stacks. Ant thoughts on this?

Ambari currently only supports upgrading the entire HDP stack together. However, we are planning "patch upgrades" (https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/AMBARI-12556) which would allow you to upgrade only a single component of the stack. This is targetted for the 3.0 release.

Are you facing any specific issue with HDP 2.5 HBase version?

avatar

No specific issue on hbase 1.1.2 on HDP 2.5. But since hbase 1.2 is the more latest and since we are doing PSR tests, there was a thought to use the latest version of hbase. Any reason why HDP is still not supporting hbase 1.2?

HBase 1.1.2 well tested and stable so sticked to it in HDP 2.5.

Hi Arun,

You should stick to the components which are shipped with the whole HDP stack. These are tested and certified together. There is no way in Ambari to only upgrade 1 component - specifically for this reason. If you feel you require this version of HBase then you should consider upgrading your stack to HDP 2.5

Thanks

@jonathanhurley Sorry for digging into this old post. Is there any updates on Ambari 3.0 release?

Looks like AMBARI-12556 is in resolved in Ambari v2.6.0. Does it means V2.6.0+ already has this individual upgrade feature and no need to wait for v3.0?
