Anyone using Hive on TEZ with CDH5?, how do you configure it using CM? is it supported by cloudera?

Thanks,

Oswaldo

Re: Using Hive on TEZ with CDH5

Hi Oswaldo,

Tez is not available in CDH 5. We generally prefer (and test) Spark and Impala over Tez.

Thanks,

Darren

So hive will support spark as an engine?, when is going to be available?

Thanks,

Oswaldo

Re: Using Hive on TEZ with CDH5

We're working on adding hive on spark, but the timeline for that is not yet clear.

Is Impala an option for you? It's significantly faster than Hive on Tez anyway.

Thanks,
Darren

We would need to research and test if all current hive code is supported by impala, and we are doing a migration POC

Thanks a lots for your quick response

Tez will run just fine on CDH5.  Tez has been  built against a Hadoop 2.2 foundation (requires a Hadoop >= 2.2 with a running YARN service, not MRV1).  This is the default setup for CDH5.   Any application can itself deploy/use Tez with zero install/config required by the customer.

That said, Cloudera is not actively supporting / contributing to Tez development, so it is solely the responsibility of gthe application vendor to support Tez compontents on CDH.  We at Datameer fully support the Tez stack on CDH5 as a component of our YARN application.

Re: Using Hive on TEZ with CDH5

So, To summarize, Cloudera CDH 5.1.3 does not not support Hive on Tez. As Tez is available only on Apaache Hive 0.13 and over. Cloudera CDH 5.1.3 is only apache hive 0.12. Correct me if the summarization is wrong

Re: Using Hive on TEZ with CDH5

Since a packaged/supported Tez is not provided by Cloudera, it would be best to ask application vendors like Datameer for further clarification.

Hi,

This post is from 4 years ago. I wonder if now (2018) anything has change and now cloudera can support Hive on Tez... Can you please advise... If not what would be my other alternatives?....  Thanks..
