What is under the hood of Hue/Impala editor Clear cache,Perform incremental metadata update..

New Contributor

Hello everyone

I had a problem with seeing a new table created in Hive from a level of Hue/Impala or trying beeline.

I was trying to invalidate medata in beeline but I was getting errors about privileges or non-existent table when trying to refresh specific table or invalidate a table.

Then I tried Hue/impala Editor and "Perform incremental metadata update" option did the job, the missing table showed up. Can you share what happens behind the scene? Are we able to run those steps manually?

Thx

Master Guru
The calls made for 'Perform incremental metadata update' perform an invalidate metadata command for a specific DB or Table (from context of the editor).

In your manual run within Beeline, did you issue a global invalidate ("INVALIDATE METADATA;") or a DB/Table specific one ("INVALIDATE METADATA db.table;")? You may not have rights for the former, but the latter should be available to your granted tables/DBs.
