@frank chen

Also your error shows:

resource_management.core.exceptions.Fail: interpreter.json not found.

So can you please check if your Zeppelin installation was successful and if you have the following file present?

ls -l /etc/zeppelin/2.5.0.0-1245/0/interpreter.json

.

Also please check if the Zeppelin directory has the proper permission like:

[root@sandbox ~]# ls -l /etc/zeppelin/2.5.0.0-1245/0/interpreter.json
-rw-r--r-- 1 zeppelin zeppelin 8228 Mar 20 05:44 /etc/zeppelin/2.5.0.0-1245/0/interpreter.json

.

Re: Zeppelin server can't start with ambari

no interpreter.json in /etc/zeppelin/2.6.0.3-8/0/

In ambari, it said 'Zeppelin Notebook Install' is ok , but Zeppelin Notebook Start is in error.

Your Zeppelin conf directory should have the following files. If the installation of Zeppelin completed successfully.

# ls -lart /etc/zeppelin/2.6.0.3-8/0/
total 88
-rwxr-xr-x 1 zeppelin zeppelin 11615 Apr 1 21:54 zeppelin-site.xml.template
-rwxr-xr-x 1 zeppelin zeppelin 6160 Apr 1 21:54 zeppelin-env.sh.template
-rwxr-xr-x 1 zeppelin zeppelin 5086 Apr 1 21:54 zeppelin-env.cmd.template
-rwxr-xr-x 1 zeppelin zeppelin 3847 Apr 1 21:54 shiro.ini.template
-rwxr-xr-x 1 zeppelin zeppelin 2729 Apr 1 21:54 interpreter-list
-rwxr-xr-x 1 zeppelin zeppelin 1326 Apr 1 21:54 configuration.xsl
drwxr-xr-x 3 zeppelin zeppelin 4096 Apr 19 18:44 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 zeppelin zeppelin 3355 Apr 19 18:49 zeppelin-site.xml
-rwxr-xr-x 1 zeppelin zeppelin 5493 Apr 19 18:49 zeppelin-env.sh
-rw-r--r-- 1 zeppelin zeppelin 1648 Apr 19 18:49 shiro.ini
-rwxr-xr-x 1 zeppelin zeppelin 595 Apr 19 18:49 log4j.properties
drwxr-xr-x 2 zeppelin zeppelin 4096 Apr 19 18:49 external-dependency-conf
drwxr-xr-x 3 zeppelin zeppelin 4096 Apr 19 18:49 .
-rw------- 1 zeppelin zeppelin 15529 Apr 19 18:49 interpreter.json

.

Missing 'interpreter.json' makes me feel that your Zeppelin installation was not successful. Please try reinstalling Zeppelin.

- Ideally if the file is missing then upon restart of zeppelin it should create one "interpretor.json' there.

- Do you see any error in the "/var/log/zeppelin/zeppelin-*" file?

Only missing interpreter.json :(

I use a new vm, after installed, there is still no interpreter.json

I used local repository to install zepplin.

zeppelin_2_6_0_3_8-0.7.0.2.6.0.3-8.noarch.rpm file size is 444,023,540. After I manually install the rpm, there is still no interpreter.json.

The HDP-2.6.0.3-centos7-rpm.tar.gz is downloaded from hortonworks. So is the rpm file not correct?

Maybe try to create this file manually and leave empty. Then start Zeppelin server
