I am using sqoop to create a table in hive using --hive-import which is getting stuck. So tried normal create table in hive using hive CLI to check but this is also getting stuck.

I am using cloudera quickstart vm. The command is stuck and even after a long time does not happen anything. Am i missing anything. Appreciate if anyone can help on this please. The below is the terminal log. Appreciate any quick help on this please.

[cloudera@quickstart ~]$ hive

I am having the same problem. Is there any configuration missing here?

One probable reason is that your Hive MetaStore Service may have gone down for some reason. Could you pastebin over the logs of that service from /var/log/hive/ directory?

The default timeout for HMS connections is ~5 minutes, so it may give the illusion of a long hang in the worst of cases.

After restarting Hive Service, I tried creating table using Hue worked.. After that create tables in hive started working.. Not sure about the magic behind.. I am yet to check the logs /var/log/hive directory
