hbase:meta state=FAILED_OPEN

hbase:meta state=FAILED_OPEN

Contributor

I am on CDH 5.4.7 hbase version 1.0.0-cdh5.4.7, rUnknown, Thu Sep 17 02:19:48 PDT 2015

I am showing the following error on master status

hbase:meta,,1.1588230740 state=FAILED_OPEN, ts=Sun Nov 01 11:11:50 CST 2015 (34s ago), server=hadoop5-private.wdc01.infra.ripple.com,60020,1446397901910

hbase hbck -repair

hbase hbck -details

hbase shell unassign 'hbase:meta,,1.1588230740'

and I have followed the instructions on

https://community.cloudera.com/t5/Storage-Random-Access-HDFS/HBase-Region-in-Transition/m-p/26703#M1...

1. Stop HBase
2. Move your original /hbase back into place
3. Use a zookeeper cli such as "hbase zkcli"[1] and run "rmr /hbase" to delete the HBase znodes
4. Restart HBase. It will recreate the znodes

but this region in transition still reappears the moment I start 1 region on the cluster.

Since I am willing to lose data I reconfigured the hbase path from /hbase to /hbase2 and created a fully empty path.

and it remains

How to fix ?

since data was lost

ended up removing service

deleting zookeeper node /hbase

restarting cluster

and added back service from scratch
