hive shell on datanode triggers jvm initialization error

hive shell on datanode triggers jvm initialization error

When trying to run the Hive CLI (using "hive shell") on our datanodes, the following error triggers:

Unable to determine Hadoop version information.
'hadoop version' returned:
Error occurred during initialization of VM Incompatible minimum and maximum heap sizes specified

However, when running "hive shell" on our namenode it runs fine. When running the "hadoop version" command from the shell, it also returns a result without problems.

Has anyone any idea which heap space could be the issue here? I've already looked into the initialization error and it seems the minimum heap space is smaller than the maximum heap space. The problem is I do not have a clue which specific heap space is causing this.

It is a cluster running CDH 4.5.0 and Hive 0.10.0+214.

If anyone would be able to point me into the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
