hosts file, network file and specify hosts during install

hosts file, network file and specify hosts during install

Contributor

I have total 20 nodes, all have firewall disabled, iptables off, ntpd auto start configured

    1. All 19 of nodes are in UNKNOW HEALTH status except ambari server, don’t know what cause this error.
    2. The /etc/hosts file has nothing changed as our DNS is on,
    3. /etc/sysconfig/network HOSTNAME=$FQDN,
    4. /etc/resolv.conf have 3 lines, look similar to following:

      nameserver 10.244.7.8

      nameserver 10.244.7.9

    search myinternet.com

when check on hostname, it always returns a FQDN, not short hostname, is that possible to cause the error?

This is my second time install Cloudera 5.9. the first time I got bad health at step 6. On one of these nodes, but this time all 19 of them all UNKNOW HEALTH now.

@Robin: can you do forward/reverse DNS lookups between the cluster nodes? e.g.

    [root@hadoop01 ~]# nslookup hadoop02.woolford.io
    Server: 10.0.1.1
    Address:	10.0.1.1#53
    Name:	hadoop02.woolford.io
    Address: 10.0.1.12

    [root@hadoop01 ~]# nslookup 10.0.1.12
    Server: 10.0.1.1
    Address:	10.0.1.1#53
    12.1.0.10.in-addr.arpa	name = hadoop02.woolford.io.

Cloudera's installation doesn't use Ambari. If you're installing Hortonworks, check that the Ambari agents are running on the hosts. I'd use ansible to do this, e.g.

    $ ansible mycluster -m shell -a "service ambari-agent status"
    hadoop01 | SUCCESS | rc=0 >>
    Found ambari-agent PID: 1277
    ambari-agent running.
    Agent PID at: /run/ambari-agent/ambari-agent.pid
    Agent out at: /var/log/ambari-agent/ambari-agent.out
    Agent log at: /var/log/ambari-agent/ambari-agent.log

    hadoop02 | SUCCESS | rc=0 >>
    Found ambari-agent PID: 1410
    ambari-agent running.
    Agent PID at: /run/ambari-agent/ambari-agent.pid
    Agent out at: /var/log/ambari-agent/ambari-agent.out
    Agent log at: /var/log/ambari-agent/ambari-agent.log
    etc...

thank you so much for your quick replay, this is the info you requested.

    [root@CAADS01 ~]# nslookup CAADS02.aur.nciteglobal.com.au Server: 10.211.8.8 Address: 10.211.8.8#53

    Name: CAADS02.aur.nciteglobal.com.au Address: 10.211.24.102

    [root@CAADS01 ~]# nslookup 10.211.24.102 Server: 10.211.8.8 Address: 10.211.8.8#53

    102.24.211.10.in-addr.arpa name = caads02.aur.nciteglobal.com.au.

    [root@CAADS01 ~]# hostname CAADS01.aur.nciteglobal.com.au

don't know why it returns FQDN when ask hostname -- short name. do you thing this caused problem?
