You need to setup password-less ssh only if you are installing HDP using Ambari . This is needed for ambari to install Ambari agents on all the nodes.

As you are doing it on a single node, I assume it is not a production environment. So you can generate password-less ssh as a root user.

i followed the above steps, but i am getting permission denied error, plz help me how to solve the issue?
