steal lease?

steal lease?

New Contributor

I've noticed that if I have process A keeping a file open and writing a line to that file once every few secs, and I concurrently run process B which calls recoverLease frequently (100ms) then process B is able to acquire the lease on the file despite process A's activity.

Is this expected?

I was expecting the fact that process A remains up and is making reasonably frequent updates to the file to ensure that it retained the lease.

Does process A need to explicitly renew the lease somehow to avoid it being stolen?

Am I misunderstanding something?

What factors might influence this?
