tutorial execrise 2: Hive queries not working

New Contributor

Hi,

I was following the tutorial, in exercise 2, when you are supposed to execute a Hive query using regex expressions to create tables, that query seems to be failing. I get the following error:

16/06/25 12:48:59 INFO log.PerfLogger: <PERFLOG method=acquireReadWriteLocks from=org.apache.hadoop.hive.ql.Driver>
16/06/25 12:49:14 ERROR curator.ConnectionState: Connection timed out for connection string (quickstart.cloudera:2181) and timeout (15000) / elapsed (696865)
org.apache.curator.CuratorConnectionLossException: KeeperErrorCode = ConnectionLoss
	at org.apache.curator.ConnectionState.checkTimeouts(ConnectionState.java:197)
	at org.apache.curator.ConnectionState.getZooKeeper(ConnectionState.java:87)

How should I solve this. I am completely new to hadoop so I have no clue.

Regards,

Harpreet

Sounds like one of the services is down. Checking their health and
restarting them is very easy from the Cloudera Manager homepage if you've
run the script to migrate to that kind of deployment. If you haven't the
way to do this with Linux's service management is to run 'sudo service
[SERVICE_NAME] status' to see if it's running, and 'sudo [SERVICE_NAME]
restart' if it's not. The services I'd check in this case are
zookeeper-server, hive-server2 and hive-metastore. If any of those aren't
running, restart them. If you continue to have problems with those services
dying, I'd check /var/log/zookeeper/ and /var/log/hive/ for error messages.
