tutorial issues: flume folder does not exist in HDFS files view in Ambari

New Contributor

Hi, Iam trying this tuorial

http://hortonworks.com/hadoop-tutorial/how-to-refine-and-visualize-server-log-data/

How to refine and visualise server log data.

I run this from hive command line and get permission error

CREATE TABLE FIREWALL_LOGS(time STRING, ip STRING, country STRING, status STRING) ROW FORMAT DELIMITED FIELDS TERMINATED BY '|' LOCATION '/flume/events';

so as suggested in the tutorial I ran this command from sandbox ssh

sudo -u hdfs hadoop fs -chmod -R 777 /flume

but I get error flume folder/file does not exist. I then checked HDFS file view from Ambari and there is no flume folder (I suppose there should be?) the services tab in the ambari shows a ? in yellow circle for the flume in side panel. I tried start alll, restart all, restart flume but it shows another window with all the progress bars already at 100% and most of them as yellow. the duration is 2 seconds. the progress bar never progresses and it just shows 100%. The flume state also does not change and remains ?. Can anyone suggest whats going on here? and how to fix it.

hdfs dfs -chmod -R 777 /flume

@baba ladla Can you share screenshot of ambari?

You can click Restart and for those services and after few mins everything should be ok
