What is the proper way to remove a directory from dfs.datanode.data.dir?

Hi,

I would like to remove one directory from dfs.datanode.data.dir across all members of the cluster. For example, I have /data/1/dfs/dn, /data/2/dfs/dn, and /data/local/dfs/dn on each datanode.  However, /data/local/dfs/dn is attached to the root file system and does not have adequate space.  This is a new installation and there is no significant data contained in hdfs.  There are three datanodes and one namenode running CDH 5.4.5.  What is the propery way to remove this directory accross the cluster?

Thanks,

John
