Sorry for confusing you... I need to connect to the hiveserver2 using beeline and create a database. the URL would be jdbc:hive2://hiveserver2_hostname:10000 org.apache.hive.jdbc.HiveDriver ? I tried this too, got the same error.

I am trying to connect beeline from client system but I am not able to... It means your node is not making a call to Hadoop file system It is running a local filesystem command "ls -a"... Check your core-site.xml in hadoop conf directory for fs.default.name property and value should be your namenode hostname... Other way to do it through CM is, make sure the hdfs gateway role is installed on the host and deploy the client configurations.. If you don't see the host in HDFS gateway, then you need to add gateway to the host and deploy client configurations...

I'm little confused on your issue. Correct me if I am wrong... You are running Cloudera Quickstart VM on Windows machine and you have a hadoop cluster set up on EC2. You are trying to access hive from Windows VM to connect EC2 Cluster ?
