Well, it's been a while and now we have most of the answers. The new paywall kicked in first of February 2021 and now even being on CDH 6.x express edition we cannot update our operating systems. They removed access even to the old archive and the only way is to remove CM/CDH from the apt list! For 7.x I get it, but going back and cripple access to your old archive binaries was small and petty!

True, this could be an endless debate since it's already done! I expected the Cloudera Express edition to be discontinued at least in a major release, not in a minor release! (6.3.3) https://docs.cloudera.com/documentation/enterprise/6/release-notes/topics/rg_cdh_633_new_features.html#cdh621_new_features Well, this is then. Open or close, there is no way to use CDM/CDH for free anymore to build something and then ask for a budget. I am sorry but in public they don't pay these prices just because we tried something for a short period of time. They need actual proof of concept as to why something expensive is good.

The Spark 2 now is the only Spark that is supported by CDH 6.x so I am not sure you will get any reply here. Is there any reason you are still in Spark 1.6.x?

Sorry I forgot about this issue. I solved this by reading the error logs and fixing my NTP communication. The problem was not related to 6.1 or upgrading from 5.16.1 to 6.x so I am going to say it was as usual related to Time/Date/NTP.

I would like to answer my own question. I have successfully upgraded from CM/CDH 5.16.1 Express to 6.1 Express without any issue. The only thing that has changed in terms of limitation, is the number of nodes in Express edition is now up to 100 hosts. Thank you! (CM/CDH 6.x has lots of new features!)

Hi Nick, Unfortunately, removing dr.who and adding hue resulted in the same problem as I had initially. I do agree to add hue would be much safer and restricted than dr.who, but it didn't work. I am looking forward to something similar to hue to solve this issue 🙂 Many thanks, Maziyar

Hi, After I have upgraded to CM/CDH 6.1 from 5.16.1, my hosts randomly and periodically having "Unknown Health" for about a few seconds and then go back to green. I have not seen/found any WARNING nor any ERROR in any logs from hosts or any services. The entire cluster works without any issue, I have run host inspection and network inspection without any problem. Also, synced time/date a few times just in case but still I can watch my hosts (also services because of the hosts) going grey with "Unknown Health" and back to green randomly for few seconds. Cloudera Management Service is on one server with 14 cores and 28G memory. I have checked this server activity, it is pretty idle, so the cluster is not a busy cluster. Either way, this is the heap size for the monitorings: Java Heap Size of Activity Monitor in Bytes: 2GB Java Heap Size of Alert Publisher in Bytes: 256MB Java Heap Size of EventServer in Bytes: 1GB Java Heap Size of Host Monitor in Bytes: 4GB Java Heap Size of Service Monitor in Bytes: 4GB Maximum Non-Java Memory of Host Monitor: 8GB Maximum Non-Java Memory of Service Monitor: 12GB Do you guys have any advice on how to diagnose the possible issue? Hello, Yes, adding search to blacklist did resolve the issue. I still don't know where the solr_url is coming without ever installing it but the issue has been resolved. Many thanks.
