@Gerd Koenig I edited my response to be more clear. While Ranger is supported, the use of Ranger Groups is not. Thanks, Matt

at the end it turned out not to be a enctype issue 😉 The problem was that the hostname of the solr server in the curl URL did not match the hostname part of solr's kerberos principal. After putting the FQDN in the call: curl --negotiate -u : 'http://mgr-node1.test.demo:8983......... the error disappeard and everything works nice.

I do think this is a defect. Not sure how Cloudera will see it. But to be fair, this particular way of inserting data (with the VALUES syntax) into a table is pretty much limited to small testing.

Regarding where to host the 3 journal nodes using QJM: Apache docs (and similarly in Cloudera HA guide) state: The JournalNode daemon is relatively lightweight, so these daemons may reasonably be collocated on machines with other Hadoop daemons, for example NameNodes, the JobTracker, or the YARN ResourceManager My 2 NameNode machines are not good candidates for hosting 2 of the 3 daemons due the recommendation that these have a dedicated disk drive. So with those out of the picture, the question circulating around my team is whether we can put these 3 daemons on nodes running data node daemons OR if we should dedicate 3 small virtual machines to running them. To me, 3 new VMs is overkill. Note that we have YARN RM on a datanode as well due to the small size of the cluster. Thanks for your input and if there are better suggestions, please let me know.

This isn't answering you question, but this is generally a bad idea. It is not a scalable way to retrieve data in HBase as this is an exhaustive search of your entire HBase table (a full table scan). This should only be used for an infrequently-execute MapReduce job (and even then, with caution as it is an expensive operation and can affect other latencies). But, if you know what you're doing, see this chapter in the HBase book: https://hbase.apache.org/book.html#cf.keep.deleted Make sure you create your table to retain more than one version of a cell Use the RAW => true option on `scan` to see the timestamp field.

Give us your indexer_def.xml and morphline conf. There should be an "id" field somewhere. And I guess you will find it in the indexer_def.xml file. For example : <indexer table="<hbase_table_name>" mapper="com.ngdata.hbaseindexer.morphline.MorphlineResultToSolrMapper"
unique-key-field="id">
